Royal Highland Fusilier Roll of Honour Part 26 Royal Fusilier Book of Honour Beith Western Supplement [Beith Advertised] Death - Allan Killed in Action in France Sergeant[Acting SM] Robert Allan attached RSF in his 26th year eldest and beloved son of Mr & Mrs George Allan Barcosh Farm Beith and Grandson of the late Mr & Mrs John Allan Barkip Farm Dalry. Extract from Beith Supplement 28th Sept 1918: Sergeant (Acting Sergeant-Major) Robert Allan, Ayrshire Yeomanry. Killed in Action 8th September 1918. We deeply regret to learn that Mr and Mrs George Allan, Barcosh Farm, Beith, have been officially notified that their eldest soon, Sergeant (Acting Sergeant-Major) Robert Allan, Ayrshire Yeomanry, attached Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action in France on 8th September. Sergeant Allen was killed near Ploegasteert while charging a machine-gun in company with one his Officers, and was killed instantaneously. The Officer Commanding the Battalion in a most sympathetic letter to the parents says - "I had known your son since the Regiment left in 1915, and in all that time had thought nothing but good of him. A Yeoman pf the finest type who had won our admiration by his bravery and endurance. It is not only as a soldier I feel his loss, however, but also as a friend, for i had come to know him well during our service, and the better i knew him the more i liked him," Sergeant Allan went through the fighting at the Dardanelles, in Egypt and Palestine, and had been over four months in France. Previous to the mobilisation in 1914 he wrought on his father's farm, and was beloved and respected by all who knew him. His sad end is a dreadful blow to his parents, who have the sympathy of the whole district.
